Legislation tabled to regulate the salary & allowances of Lokayukt
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today tabled Himachal Pradesh Lokayukta Bill 2033 to amend the Parents Act of 2014.
Mr Sukhu who also holds a portfolio of Home said that this act was enacted to provide for the appointment of Lokayukta for the State of Himachal Pradesh to inquire into the allegations of corruption against certain public functionaries.
He said Legislation was desired to to regulate the salaries and allowances of Lokayukta who would be appointed as a former High Court judge.
Therefore, section 7 of the Act is required to be amended and a provision is being made that in case of appointment of a Judge as Lokayukta, he or She shall be entitled to the salary and allowances, etc. of a Judge.
CM said that earlier, only the Chief Justice of the High Court was eligible for appointment as Lokayukta. However, in the year 2021, a Judge of the High Court has also been made eligible for the said post.
