Kangra Police Bust Charas Smuggling Network, Three Arrested
In a significant success in its ongoing campaign against drug trafficking, the Kangra Police’s Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) team has seized over 1.25 kg of charas and arrested three individuals allegedly linked to the smuggling operation.
The breakthrough came during a special anti-narcotics operation conducted by the CIA team on August 27, 2024. Acting on specific intelligence regarding the movement of contraband, police intercepted a vehicle near Paraur Railway Station, under the jurisdiction of Bhawarna Police Station.
During the search, officers recovered 1.254 kg of charas from the vehicle. The two occupants were immediately taken into custody and identified as Deep Kumar (32), a resident of Balkarupi in Jogindernagar, Mandi district, and Kali Ram (28), a resident of Duman in the Paddar area of Mandi district.
Police seized both the narcotics and the vehicle and registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (ND&PS) Act. Investigators then began probing the origin of the consignment and the network behind its transportation.
As the investigation progressed, officials uncovered the alleged involvement of another individual suspected of being connected to the drug operation. Based on the evidence gathered, police arrested Shanoukri alias Shaunki alias Rauki (32), a resident of Valdhar in Nagrota Bagwan, Kangra district.
According to police, the third arrest was made under Section 29 of the ND&PS Act, which pertains to abetment and criminal conspiracy in narcotics-related offences.
Officials described the seizure as an important step in disrupting drug trafficking activities in the region. The case remains under investigation as police continue efforts to identify the wider network involved and trace the intended destination of the seized contraband.
The successful operation reflects the intensified drive by Kangra Police against the illegal drug trade, with authorities reiterating their commitment to dismantling narcotics networks and curbing the spread of drugs in the state.
