Kangra-Dalhousie Tourism Corridor: A Game-Changer for Regional Tourism and Development

The proposed Kangra-Valley Dalhousie Tourism Corridor, aimed at boosting tourism in the districts of Kangra and Chamba, is set to revolutionize the region’s connectivity and tourism landscape. Deputy Chief Whip, while inspecting the project, highlighted its significance for locals and tourists alike. The corridor, estimated to cost ₹45 crores, will reduce the travel distance between Dharamshala and Dalhousie by 45 kilometers, offering travelers a closer view of the region’s picturesque valleys.

The Deputy Chief Whip noted that this project aligns with the vision of developing Kangra as the “Tourism Capital” of Himachal Pradesh. During his inspection, he visited several locations, including Dhulara, Kathla, Lam, Boh, Nohli, Salli, and Kareri, listening to public grievances and reviewing ongoing development projects.

Development in Dharkandi Region

He informed that the Public Works Department (PWD) is investing ₹28 crores in road, bridge, and other infrastructure projects in the Dharkandi area, while the Water Power Department is executing plans worth ₹40 crores. Villagers across several panchayats extended a warm welcome to the Deputy Chief Whip and presented their longstanding demands, including road connectivity and infrastructure improvements.

Key announcements included the construction of the Speda-Gadhguhan road, the Rawa-Lag Batuni route, and the fulfillment of a decades-old demand for the Diada road. Instructions were issued to PWD officials to expedite these projects.

Focus on Accountability and Progress

The Deputy Chief Whip directed revenue officials to provide detailed records of government and private land used by power projects in the Shahpur region. He also demanded transparency regarding funds allocated and utilized under the Local Area Development Authority (LADA) for these projects.

Additionally, he reviewed the under-construction college building in Ridkmar and instructed concerned departments to accelerate the work. A new bridge over the Maned drain is also in the pipeline, with necessary processes already underway.

Tourism Corridor: A Catalyst for Economic Growth

The Kangra-Valley Dalhousie Tourism Corridor is expected to enhance tourism and improve the livelihoods of people in the region. With breathtaking landscapes and improved connectivity, the project promises to attract more visitors and boost local economies.

Officials and Community Support

The inspection tour was attended by several officials, including Chief Engineer Loknirman Vikram Sharma, Superintendent Engineer BS Thakur, and Executive Engineer Ankaj Sood, among others. Local representatives and panchayat heads also accompanied the Deputy Chief Whip, ensuring community participation in the development process.

The Kangra-Dalhousie corridor project is poised to become a transformative initiative, blending development with the region’s natural beauty and making Kangra a tourism hub of Himachal Pradesh.
