Justice for Vimal Negi, Not Politics: Sukhu Slams BJP, Vows Full CBI Cooperation

In a heartfelt address from Shimla, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu strongly criticized the BJP for what he described as politicizing the tragic Vimal Negi case. Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Sukhu emphasized that the focus should be on uncovering the truth and delivering justice to Negi’s grieving family—not scoring political points.

“Whether it was suicide or something more, the truth must come out,” Sukhu said, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to a fair and transparent investigation. He assured that the government is ready to fully cooperate with the CBI.

The Chief Minister recounted the swift actions taken after protests erupted, including a powerful demonstration where Negi’s family and colleagues placed his body on the road. “I personally spoke to Vimal Negi’s wife and promised a thorough probe,” he shared.

An inquiry committee led by Omkar Sharma was promptly formed, but Sukhu expressed frustration that the BJP continues to focus on political narratives rather than supporting the investigation. “Their concern isn’t justice—it’s political mileage,” he alleged.

Sukhu also acknowledged internal discrepancies within the police department, noting conflicting reports and a delayed FIR. He revealed that although the DGP suggested changing the SIT, he opted instead to hand the case over to the CBI for impartiality.

Addressing concerns raised in the Additional Chief Secretary’s report, Sukhu questioned why the accused officers’ perspectives were overlooked and clarified that legal advice is being sought before any action is taken.

He condemned what he called a “media trial” orchestrated by the BJP, urging opposition leader Jairam Thakur to “stick to facts” and avoid misleading the public.

Reiterating his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline, Sukhu concluded, “We will not appeal the High Court’s decision. We will implement it fully. Justice for Vimal Negi is our priority.”
