Independence Day Plantation Drive: 250 Saplings Planted in Kullu with Community Support
In celebration of Independence Day, a joint effort was made by the Mandi Literacy and Public Development Committee, Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti Kullu Unit, the Forest Department, and Mahila Mandal Bhulang to plant 250 saplings of deodar and van trees. During the event, General Secretary Bhim Singh emphasized the impact of environmental changes, noting the rising temperatures that have affected crops, caused droughts in some regions, and heavy rainfall in others. The temperature in Kullu has increased significantly, prompting the widespread use of fans in homes. Additionally, there is concern over the growing trend of people leaving behind bottles and trash during forest picnics.
Forest Development Officer Reena Thakur, Forest Guard Som Dev, and Joint Secretary of Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti Kullu, Dhanvanti Salochna, along with numerous women from the Mahila Mandal, participated in the plantation drive.
The ongoing tree plantation campaign, which started on July 11, has already seen the planting of thousands of saplings in the Kullu and Mandi districts. The initiative will continue until August 31.
