Icy Winds Grip Himachal Despite Sunny Skies
Himachal Pradesh is in the grip of a bone-chilling cold, even though the skies remain clear. There’s no sign of rain or snowfall for now, but the icy winds have pushed temperatures below zero, spreading a cold wave across the state.
Tabo has emerged as the coldest spot, recording a freezing -6.9°C, while Una stood out as the warmest with a pleasant 25.4°C. November has been unusually dry, with only light showers and snowfall on the 4th and 5th. Since then, farmers and orchardists have been struggling, as the lack of moisture in the soil makes sowing Rabi crops difficult, and the absence of snow is hurting apple growers.
According to the Shimla Meteorological Center, the dry spell is expected to continue until November 30. Minimum temperatures are unlikely to change much in the coming days. In higher regions, water sources and streams are beginning to freeze, and black ice is making roads dangerously slippery.
Here’s how the mercury dipped across Himachal:
- Tabo: -6.9°C
- Kukumseri: -4.7°C
- Kalpa: -0.3°C
- Manali: 1.3°C
- Shimla: 6.4°C
- Una: 7.5°C
- Nahan: 9.3°C
- Paonta Sahib: 11.0°C
- Neri: 11.1°C
From frozen springs to worried farmers, Himachal is bracing itself for a long, dry winter.
