HP registers 1123 rape cases in last three years.

Himachal Pradesh Police is deeply concerned about crime against women as analysis of rape cases for the last three ycars (2020, 2021 & 2022 upto 31.10.2022), state registered total 1123 cases of sexual offences. It is found that till today state registered 364 rape case this year that of 398 0f 2021 and 366 of 2020. Spokesperson of State police said that out of 1123 cases 52 offences by unknown  however 545 by known person. 305 cases occurred during friendship, 186 in allurement of false promises of marriage, 34 in living relationship between victim and accused. Spokesman said that in most of crime against women offenders involved in the crime are mostly known to the victims as 48.5 per cent rape cases committed

by the known person, 27.1 p c commited during friendship 16.5 p c committed due to false promise of marriage, three committed during live in relationship and 4.6 p c  have been committed by unknown persons. Most of the above noted cases are avoidable. Breakup of the rapes committed by known person is as 10 p c  by Father or step father, 6  p c by Cousin, 1.4 p c

by Grandfather, 6.6 p c by Uncle & 75.7 p c by other relatives.

To curb such crimes awareness programmes with the aegis of Panchyati Raj

institution needs to be organized throughout the State. Educational institutes need to be

sensitized to mitigate such crime. For the redressal of grievances of women, Police

Department has established Women Help Desk number 1091. Women Police Stations have also been made functional in all districts of HP except Lahul Spiti and Kinnaur. On apprehension of sexual assault/harassment victim may report to the nearest Women Police Stations or women help desk number to prevent such crime. Police Department has also started scheme known as “Veerangna on Wheels” throughout the State for combating erime against women. Citizen groups and NGOs should be encouraged to increase awareness in the

society.
