
Hindi Should Become an Integral Part of Official Work and Knowledge Creation: Hindi Month Concludes at IIAS
The Hindi Month organised at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, concluded today. At the valedictory ceremony held at the Pool Theatre, winners of various competitions organised during Hindi Month were presented certificates and felicitated. Mrs Nandini Mittal, Deputy Director, Doordarshan Kendra, Shimla, was the Chief Guest, while the programme was presided over by Professor Himanshu Kumar Chaturvedi, Director, Indian Institute of Advanced Study.
The programme commenced with the welcome of the Chief Guest. On the occasion, Prof. Himanshu Kumar Chaturvedi, Director, IIAS, felicitated Mrs Nandini Mittal by presenting her with a traditional Himachali cap and scarf.
Delivering the welcome address, Dr Akhilesh Pathak, Secretary, Official Language, said that Hindi Month should not remain confined to activities organised during a designated period but should serve as an inspiration for the regular and effective use of Hindi.
During Hindi Month, various competitions were organised for the officers and employees of the Institute. These included essay writing, self-composed poetry recitation, debate, Hindi typing, translation, noting and drafting, and quiz competitions. Participants took part enthusiastically and demonstrated their talent in various linguistic and creative aspects of Hindi. In addition, ten employees who had undertaken a higher amount of official work in Hindi were also presented certificates and felicitated on the occasion.
During the valedictory ceremony, participants securing first, second and third positions, as well as encouragement prizes, in various competitions were presented certificates by the Chief Guest and the Director. The winning groups of the quiz competition, who demonstrated outstanding performance, were also presented certificates and felicitated.
In her address, Mrs Nandini Mittal spoke about the importance of Hindi and effective communication. She emphasised the wider use of Hindi and the need to connect the language with mass communication and social dialogue.
In his presidential address, Professor Himanshu Kumar Chaturvedi, Director, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, highlighted the need to make the use of Hindi an integral part of the institutional work culture. He emphasised the importance of sustaining awareness and enthusiasm for Hindi in regular official work and day-to-day functioning.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Professor Sanjay Bhatt, Fellow, Indian Institute of Advanced Study and Chairman, Hindi Month Organising Committee. The ceremony concluded with Vande Mataram and the National Anthem.
The valedictory ceremony reinforced the message that awareness and use of Hindi should not remain confined to Hindi Month but should be continuously promoted in the Institute’s daily official work, communication and knowledge creation.
