Himachal Pradesh Revenue Department Strike: Public Services at a Standstill

The ongoing strike by Patwaris and Kanungos in Himachal Pradesh has brought the Revenue Department to a halt, causing significant inconvenience to the public. Since February 28, these employees have been protesting against the state government’s decision to implement a state cadre system, leaving citizens struggling to complete essential tasks like land registries, property transfers, and certificate issuance.

People are repeatedly visiting Patwar offices, only to find empty chairs and unattended counters. The strike has disrupted routine administrative work and delayed important transactions, especially in rural areas where land records and certifications are crucial.

The dispute centers around the government’s decision to manage transfers and promotions at the state level, which employees fear will disrupt their careers and displace them from their home districts. They also highlight the poor condition of Patwar offices, lacking basic amenities like electricity and internet.

Despite the public inconvenience, the government remains firm on its decision, with Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi emphasizing the move’s aim to improve administrative efficiency and fairness. The minister has appealed for employees to return to work, warning of disciplinary action, but the strike continues with no resolution in sight.

As the deadlock drags on, the people of Himachal Pradesh are left waiting for their local Patwar offices to reopen and resume services.
