Himachal Minister Takes a Stand: No More Negligence on Our Highways

In a strong move addressing growing public concern, Himachal Pradesh’s Panchayati Raj Minister, Anirudh Singh, has issued a clear warning to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), stating that haphazard and unorganized construction work on the state’s highways will no longer be tolerated.

Expressing frustration with the current state of affairs, Minister Singh directly criticized the NHAI’s operations in the state. “The construction under Phase 2 is being carried out in a chaotic manner, severely impacting the lives of local residents,” he stated while speaking to the media in Shimla. He alleged that the NHAI is not functioning properly and that voices questioning these irregularities are being suppressed.

Focus on Public Grievances and Safety

The minister’s comments come after representatives from areas affected by chaotic construction on the Paonta-Hatkoti Highway (NH-707) met with him to file complaints. Highlighting the urgency, especially after the recent monsoon devastation, Singh emphasized that negligence in road construction poses a significant safety risk and will not be overlooked.

He has taken concrete steps to address the issue:

· Direct Instructions to NHAI: Officials have been directed to promptly resolve public complaints.
· Zero Tolerance for Pressure: A strict warning was issued that senior NHAI officials who attempt to exert pressure to overlook irregularities will face action.
· Police Involvement: The state police administration has been ordered to take immediate action on complaints related to NHAI work.

The Matter Goes to the Top

Minister Singh confirmed that the entire issue will be presented to Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu upon his return. This signals that the state government is treating the matter with the highest priority.

The minister’s firm stance sends a clear message: the safety and well-being of Himachal’s residents and its environment must come first in infrastructure development.
