Himachal Heroes: Three Bravehearts to Receive President’s Award on Republic Day

This Republic Day, Himachal Pradesh will celebrate the extraordinary contributions of three of its own as they receive the prestigious President’s Award for their outstanding service in Home Guards, Civil Defence, and Fire Services. Their selfless dedication and courage in the face of danger have brought pride to the state and the nation.

Dinesh Kumar: Leading with Courage and Commitment

Dinesh Kumar, a Home Guard Company Commander, has been serving as a volunteer since 1993. Known for his unwavering dedication, he has always fulfilled his duties with exceptional sincerity. Dinesh has trained countless civilians in disaster management through mock drills and led his team during the devastating Shiv Bawdi landslide in August 2023, recovering 20 bodies from the debris. His leadership in critical moments exemplifies bravery and compassion.

Budhraj: A Lifesaver in Times of Crisis

Platoon Commander Budhraj, who began his journey as a volunteer in 2012, was promoted to his current rank in 2019. Over the years, he has displayed remarkable courage and skill in rescue operations. From saving a child and recovering four bodies during the Chadgaon landslide in 2013 to extinguishing a major fire at the SDM office in Kaza in 2019, his contributions have been invaluable. In 2021, he rescued two people and recovered eight bodies during the Nigulsari landslide. Just last year, he ensured the safety of 20 tourists stranded in Kinnaur, solidifying his reputation as a hero in times of need.

Thakur Das: Decades of Dedication in Fire Services

Thakur Das, a seasoned Fire Officer, has been serving since 1988 and currently oversees the Mandi Fire Station. His career is marked by countless acts of bravery, including rescuing passengers from a bus that plunged into the Beas River near Mandi on Himachal Day in 1998. In 2024, when floods devastated Rajban Barot in Mandi district, Thakur Das and his team rescued 10 people trapped in the debris of a collapsed two-story building. His years of service continue to inspire those around him.

These three individuals represent the best of Himachal Pradesh, showing how dedication, courage, and selflessness can make a profound difference. As the nation honors them this Republic Day, their stories will serve as an inspiration for generations to come.
