Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti Urges Stronger Action Against Drug Abuse, Calls for Public Support

Shimla: Concerned over the rising menace of drug abuse, the Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti has intensified its efforts to push for a comprehensive policy to tackle the issue. The committee submitted a memorandum to Shimla MLA Harish Janartha, urging the government to take concrete and inclusive steps against drug addiction.

State Secretary Satyawan Pundeer and Shimla Urban Unit President Govind Chatranta emphasized that the committee is committed to strengthening its anti-drug campaign. They announced that this year, International Women’s Day on March 8 will focus on the role of mothers in preventing drug abuse and protecting the youth from its grip.

Pundeer stated that before the upcoming assembly session, the committee will approach MLAs across Himachal Pradesh, urging them to discuss the drug issue in the assembly and formulate a strong policy to combat it. He stressed that considering the growing severity of the problem, a well-structured and effective strategy is urgently needed.

Highlighting concerns over drug misuse during elections, the committee has also demanded stricter legal provisions to curb the free distribution of drugs, especially in the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections.

Govind Chatranta expressed deep concern over the increasing number of young lives lost to substance abuse in Shimla. He urged residents to unite against this crisis and actively contribute to efforts aimed at saving the city’s youth.

In a call for collective action, Chatranta appealed to civil organizations, welfare societies, and pensioners’ associations to join hands in the fight against drugs. The committee has invited people to gather near the DC Office in Shimla at 10:30 AM on March 8 to demonstrate solidarity and demand stronger measures against drug abuse.
