Himachal Govt to boost Ministers’ digital outreach with dedicated social media teams
In a bid to strengthen its digital presence and improve public communication, the Himachal Pradesh government has decided to appoint social media coordinators for all cabinet ministers. According to a notification issued on November 25, 2024, the Council of Ministers has approved the hiring of two social media handlers for each minister. These appointments will be made on a nomination basis and will end with the tenure of the respective ministers.
Bridging the Digital Gap
The initiative reflects the government’s recognition of social media as a vital tool for governance and public engagement. The move aims to amplify the ministers’ reach on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram while ensuring timely responses to public concerns and misinformation. The Secretary of Information and Public Relations (I&PR), in the official notification, highlighted the need for effective digital strategies to engage with citizens and counter online misinformation.
Responding to the Challenges of Digital Misinformation
The decision also comes as a response to growing concerns about the impact of negative social media posts on the public perception of the council of ministers. By appointing dedicated coordinators, the government aims to address such issues promptly and effectively, ensuring that misleading content is countered and accurate information is disseminated.
Next Steps for Implementation
The Information and Public Relations Department has directed senior officials to brief ministers about the notification, enabling them to initiate the process of selecting their social media teams. These coordinators will not only manage the ministers’ social media profiles but also create content that reflects the government’s achievements and initiatives.
This proactive step by the Himachal Pradesh government underscores its commitment to embracing modern communication tools and staying connected with the public in a digitally evolving era.
