Higher reaches of Himachal experiencing fresh snowfall

Snowfall has been observed in the higher altitudes of Himachal Pradesh since last night, with light windstorms affecting various areas. However, other parts of the state are experiencing partly cloudy conditions. The Shimla Meteorological Office reports significant snowfall in Kukamseri, Lahaul-Spiti district (50 cm), Keylong (15 cm), and Kalpa in Kinnaur (1.5 cm). Additionally, Bharmour in Chamba received 11 mm of rain, while Manali received nine mm, Dalhousie five cm, and Chamba 4.5 mm. Palampur, Kangra, Reckong-peo (Kinnaur), and Bhuntar (Kullu) experienced traces of rainfall. Minimum temperatures across the state are slightly above normal, with Kukamseri at minus 0.5 degrees, Kalpa at 0.5 degrees, Manali and Dalhousie at 2.8 degrees, and Shimla at 7.2 degrees (3.8 degrees above normal). At the airports, Bhuntar recorded 6.5 degrees and Jubberhati 9.4 degrees.

In Dharamshala, the residence of the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama, and Bilaspur, temperatures were at 11.2 degrees, while Kangra recorded the warmest temperature at 13.8 degrees. Chamba and Una recorded nine degrees, Mandi 9.8 degrees, and Nahan 10 degrees.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the state, as two Western Disturbances, a cyclonic circulation, and induced jet winds in the North Western Himalayan region may bring rain or snowfall to many areas in the next 24 hours. The warning also includes the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain or snowfall and hail. Additionally, gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, may occur at isolated places within the state in the next 24 hours.
