Hemant Sharma, Varsha, Keshav, Rajendra and Vijay will create a stir in the Junga Dussehra fair
The ancient and famous Dussehra fair of Keonthal region will be celebrated with great pomp this year from October 2 to 4 at the historic school ground Junga. Renowned folk singers of the state, Hemant Sharma, Varsha Thakur, Keshav Sharma, Rajendra Verma and Vijay Mokta will entertain the people with their melodious voices at the fair. Tehsildar Junga and Fair Officer Narayan Singh Verma said that apart from this, local artists, school children and women’s groups will also be given opportunities to showcase their talent at the fair.
He said that, as per tradition, a procession will be taken out on October 2 from the palace of the then Keonthal State, led by Raja Khush Vikram Sen, in which hundreds of people from the area, including local schools, will participate. After Raja Khush Vikram Sen performs puja at the fairgrounds, the burning of Lanka will take place by setting fire to the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, and Meghnad.
Similarly, Kabaddi competitions will be held during the day on October 3rd, in which teams from various regions of the state will participate. He informed that the entry fee for the Kabaddi team has been kept at one thousand rupees. This competition will run for two days, in which the winning team will be awarded a cash prize of 31 thousand rupees and the runner-up team will be awarded 21 thousand rupees. In addition, cultural programs will be presented at the fair by schools, women’s groups, self-help groups and local artists of the Junga area during the day. He informed that Star Night will be organized by the fair committee on October 3rd, in which ADM Shimla Pankaj Sharma will participate as the chief guest.
The Tehsildar stated that on October 4th, the final day of the fair, a massive wrestling competition will be held, featuring renowned wrestlers from across northern India. The wrestler who wins the grand prize will receive a prize of 51,000 rupees. The final Kabaddi matches will also be held on this day. He added that special arrangements have been made to maintain law and order at the fair. Committees have been formed to manage water, electricity, and other facilities at the fair site.
