Heatwave Hits Himachal: Record-Breaking Temperatures and Forest Fire Concerns

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Shimla has issued a yellow alert for a heatwave that is expected to persist for the next 72 hours in Himachal Pradesh. Several districts, including Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Una, are at risk. The region has witnessed soaring temperatures, with Una recording a maximum temperature of 42.1°C, which is 7.8°C above normal. Neri in Bilaspur district experienced a blistering 44.6°C, while Hamirpur saw 42.1°C. Kangra, Sundernagar, and Mandi also reported temperatures significantly above average. Shimla, the capital town, has been experiencing unusually high temperatures, reaching 30.6°C today. The prolonged heatwave has exacerbated forest fire incidents, causing substantial damage. Despite the heat, the state continues to attract tourists, but poor traffic arrangements have left many sweltering inside their vehicles. The IMD urges residents and visitors to take necessary precautions and stay hydrated as the region braces for continued extreme heat wave.
