Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti Celebrated at IIAS, Shimla
The birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated with great reverence and enthusiasm at the Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore Gallery of Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Rashtrapati Niwas, Shimla. The occasion also marked the continued efforts of the Institute to preserve and promote Tagore’s legacy through dedicated academic and cultural initiatives.
It was highlighted that the Institute has recently developed the Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore Gallery as a space to showcase the life, works, and enduring intellectual contributions of Tagore, offering scholars and visitors an opportunity to engage more closely with his multifaceted legacy. In continuation of such initiatives, the Institute is also undertaking the translation of Tagore’s celebrated work Gitanjali into Kannada, with the objective of expanding its accessibility to a wider linguistic audience.
Further, it was informed that an upcoming national-level seminar focusing on Tagore’s philosophical and cultural contributions is being planned in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), which is expected to bring together eminent scholars and researchers from across the country.
On this prestigious occasion, Tagore Fellows, National Fellows, Fellows, Associates, officers, and staff members of the Institute participated wholeheartedly in the commemorative programme. The event paid rich tribute to the timeless literary, cultural, and philosophical contributions of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.
During the programme, several fellows recited selected poems and excerpts from the works of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore as a mark of homage to the great poet and visionary. Their presentations reflected the universal humanism, spirituality, and literary brilliance embodied in Tagore’s writings.
Students from Shiva International Residential School also participated enthusiastically in the celebration, adding youthful energy and cultural vibrancy to the occasion.
The programme was conducted and moderated by Dr. Rajeev Kumar Mishra, Academic Resource Officer and Librarian of the Institute, who highlighted the continuing relevance of Tagore’s ideals in contemporary society and academia.
The celebration concluded with a collective expression of gratitude and admiration for Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s enduring legacy, which continues to inspire generations across the world.
