Governor presides over 33rd Annual Court meeting of HPU

33rd meeting of the University Court of Himachal Pradesh University was held under the Chairmanship of Governor of Himachal Pradesh and Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar here today.

The Governor said that for the last two years, due to the corona pandemic, the work could not be done fast, but now there was a time to move fast with a positive thinking. He said that education was such a means of progress through which we could evaluate the progress of the society.

He said that there was a healthy environment of education in the State. Literacy was much higher and the educational institutions were also big in number. We should take the advantages of these facilities in a positive way.  He said that it was a matter of pride for all of us that the passout students from this university were working in high positions throughout the country. They had played an important role in the development of the State and the country, he added.

The Governor said that Himachal Pradesh University could take lead across the country in implementing the National Education Policy. Expressing concern over the increasing prevalence of drugs in the state, the Governor urged the teaching community to discharge their responsibility in this direction also so that the younger generation could be saved from this menace.

 He said that in order to contribute towards society one needs to bring a change in thinking. Efforts should be made that after completing the degree, the students have a concretion with the society, he added. “Do we have other responsibilities other than text or books, Yes, it is”, said Arlekar and added that the teachers should take more responsibility for the society and to change the mindset of the students in a positive direction.

The University Court approved the Annual Accounts for the year 2017-2018 and Annual Report for the year 2019-20.

Prof. S.P. Bansal, Officiating Chancellor welcomed and honoured the Governor on the occasion and presented a detailed report on activities of the previous year. He also apprised about the achievements of the University.

He said that the University was performing its best in three parameters including Management of higher education, re-orientation and quality of higher education. He added that all efforts were being executed as per the vision document of the University. He also ensured to implement National Education Policy from this academic session in its true sense. He said that the University would focus on quality 

research and the International Research Center would be developed in the campus. He said that efforts would be made to set up an International level sports academy in the university.

Registrar HPU Suneel Sharma conducted the proceedings and proposed a vote of thanks.
