Farmers Urged to Register for Digital Farmer ID to Access Schemes and Subsidies
The Himachal Pradesh Agriculture Department has called upon farmers across the state to register for a unique digital Farmer ID under the Centre’s AgriStack initiative, a move aimed at making the delivery of government schemes, agricultural subsidies and welfare benefits faster, more transparent and more efficient.
To make the process easy and accessible, farmers can register free of cost at Lok Mitra Kendras or attend special registration camps being organised by the department at the panchayat level. Those comfortable with digital services can also complete the registration online through the Himachal Pradesh Farmer Registry portal.
The Farmer ID is an Aadhaar-linked 11-digit digital identity that connects a farmer’s personal information with land records and other relevant agricultural details. The initiative seeks to create a verified database of landholding farmers, ensuring that government assistance reaches the right beneficiaries without delays or discrepancies.
For registration, farmers are required to keep their Aadhaar card, the latest copy of their Khasra or Jamabandi records and a mobile number linked with Aadhaar ready for authentication. The process includes Aadhaar verification, entry of personal and land details, validation of agricultural land records and electronic submission of the application.
The department has clarified that farmers whose mobile numbers are not linked with Aadhaar can still register through biometric authentication at designated camps, depending on the facilities available. However, any errors in Aadhaar information or land records must be corrected beforehand to avoid complications during registration.
Officials have also emphasized that every individual whose name appears in the revenue records as a landholder must register separately, including co-sharers of jointly owned agricultural land. At the same time, a farmer owning land in multiple tehsils will be issued only one Farmer ID, with all land parcels linked under the same profile.
According to the Agriculture Department, the digital identity will help farmers access a range of services and benefits, including agricultural subsidy programmes, crop insurance, minimum support price procurement, Kisan Credit Card loans and crop-specific advisory services. It will also help authorities identify eligible farmers who may have been left out of existing welfare schemes.
The department has indicated that future subsidies and benefits under various agricultural schemes are expected to be routed through the Farmer ID system. Farmers have therefore been advised to complete their registration at the earliest and ensure that both their personal and land-related information is accurate and up to date.
Officials clarified that the registration is a one-time exercise, although updates may be required in cases such as inheritance, changes in land ownership or other important modifications. They also stressed that the Farmer ID serves only as a digital identification tool and does not grant ownership rights or alter existing land records in any way.
Farmers seeking assistance or additional information have been encouraged to approach officials from the Agriculture or Revenue Departments, visit their nearest Lok Mitra Kendra or use the official online portal for support with the registration process.
