Farmers are disappointed due to the fall in the price of French beans
Due to the fall in the price of French beans, farmers are disappointed. It may be noted that the consignment of French beans from the lower regions of Junga tehsil is reaching the state’s biggest vegetable market Solan and Dhali every day. In the initial phase, the maximum price of French beans was Rs. 120 per kilogram. Due to the increase in the arrival of French beans from different areas of the state, French beans were sold at Rs. 35 to 50 per kilogram in Solan and Dhali vegetable market on Saturday. However, last week the maximum rate of French beans was Rs. 70. It may be noted that due to good rains during the month of May, there has been a bumper crop of French beans this time.
Progressive farmers Pritam Thakur, Chanchal Verma, Daulat Ram Mehta and many others said that if the rate of French beans remains stable at Rs. 50, then farmers will benefit a lot, otherwise, due to the rate of French beans falling too low, farmers do not even get the cost of seeds and labour. They said that there are two varieties of French beans, in which the first type of variety has a tassel which is sold at a low price, while the second one is Butia i.e. Phalguni variety of French beans which is grown without tassels, gets good prices in the market. According to Pritam Thakur, French bean crop is ready in the least time i.e. 60 days, in which farmers do not have to work very hard.
It may be noted that in the Junga region, on the lines of Solan, cash crops like French beans, tomatoes, garlic, capsicum etc. are grown in large quantities, due to which revolutionary changes are being witnessed in the economy of the farmers.
According to transporter Pradeep Bragta, due to heavy arrival of French beans from other areas of the state, the rate has come down a bit. In Solan and Dhali also, the best beans are being sold at 35 to 50 rupees per kilogram. He says that the rate of French beans is depending on its quality. Despite this, farmers are getting good prices on an average for French beans.
