Even after 78 years of independence, Junga did not get the status of urban body
Despite 78 years of independence, the princely city of Junga has remained untouched in terms of development. Despite the increasing population of the city, Junga has not been able to get the status of Nagar Panchayat till date, due to which the citizens of this city feel cheated. The present Congress government has given the status of Nagar Panchayat to more than 12 small towns of the state during its tenure. Despite having a cabinet minister from Kasupanti constituency, Junga and Koti have not yet got the status of urban body.
It should be noted that in the past, Junga used to be the headquarters of 18 Thakurais of Keonthal princely state. According to senior citizens, this city used to be bustling during the princely era. The population of the city including government offices is more than three and a half thousand, i.e. it fulfills all the criteria to become a Nagar Panchayat. Local citizens say that no public representative made any effort to get the status of Nagar Panchayat for Junga, due to which Junga has remained untouched in terms of development.
Local people say that the local Panchayat does not have employees to clean the city. Buildings are being constructed in the city at will. There is no town planning act in this city. Durga Singh Thakur, a resident of Junga, said that due to the absence of a bypass road for old Junga, heavy vehicles have to pass through the narrow lanes of Junga. Due to which there is often a jam in the streets of the city. Due to the absence of a bus stand in the city, buses have to be parked on the road. There is no parking facility anywhere in the city, due to which vehicle owners coming from outside face a lot of problems.
Tehsildar Junga Narayan Singh Verma said that no proposal has yet come from the people to grant Nagar Panchayat status to Junga city.
