Aiming to strengthen Himachal Pradesh’s traditional culture and rural economy, the 10-day Him Eera Saras Fair and Food Festival have commenced at Shimla’s Ridge. Under the State Rural Livelihood Mission, women from self-help groups are showcasing traditional Himachali cuisines and locally-made products through various stalls at the Ridge and the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex.

The Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister, Anirudh Singh, inaugurated the event. Highlighting its significance, he stated, “This fair is not just about empowering women and providing them self-employment opportunities but also about giving people an authentic experience of Himachali culture.” He added that the fair not only offers tourists a glimpse into Himachal’s rich heritage but also enables women to achieve self-reliance by showcasing their skills and earning an income.

Women participating in the event expressed gratitude for the platform provided by the government. They shared how this initiative has helped them boost their income and reach a broader audience with their products.

The 10-day fair features 105 stalls, including 21 dedicated to Himachali cuisines and 14 showcasing products from other states. Visitors can explore a variety of offerings, from Himachali handlooms and handicrafts to other traditional goods. This initiative not only promotes Himachali culture but also brings positive change to the lives of rural women, fostering both empowerment and economic growth.
