Dussehra fair to be held with great pomp in Junga from 20th to 22nd October : Kartikeya Sharma
The ancient and famous district-level Dussehra fair of the Keonthal region will be held with great pomp and show this year in Junga from October 20th to 22nd. The traditional burning of the Lanka, cultural evenings, sports competitions, and a grand wrestling competition will be the main attractions. Preparations for the fair have begun.
Presiding over the meeting of the fair committee, Tehsildar Junga and Fair Officer Kartikeya Sharma stated that correspondence has been made with the High Court seeking permission to hold the fair on the playground of the Government Senior Secondary School, Junga. If permission is granted, the fair will be held on the school grounds as before. If permission is not granted, the administration will explore other suitable locations.
He stated that there will be a local holiday in Junga tehsil on October 21st and 22nd for the Dussehra fair. As per tradition, the palanquin of Lord Raghunath will be brought from the palace to the fair site in a procession accompanied by musical instruments. Hundreds of local residents, along with students from various schools in the area, will participate.
He said that during the fair, as per the ancient tradition of Keonthal state, after worship, Lanka will be burnt by setting fire to the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnad.
The fair official stated that various cultural programs and sports competitions will be organized for the entertainment of the people. In addition to the Star Night, local schools, women’s groups, and self-help groups will also be given the opportunity to present cultural programs.
A massive wrestling competition will be held on October 22nd, the final day of the fair. Renowned wrestlers from across northern India are expected to participate. Other sports competitions, including kabaddi, are also being considered.
Tehsildar Kartikeya Sharma urged the people of the Junga region and the various panchayats to contribute generously to the successful organization of this traditional fair. He stated that the availability of adequate financial resources would make the fair even more attractive and grand.
He said that special security arrangements will be made to maintain law and order during the fair. Various committees have been formed to provide drinking water, electricity, and other necessary facilities at the fair site.
Naib Tehsildar Rajendra Thakur, District Council Member Khush Vikram Sen, Principal of Government Senior Secondary School Junga Mahesh Sharma, BDC Member Seema Sen, Pankaj Sen, local Panchayat Pradhan Ramlal along with officers of various departments and representatives of various Panchayats of Junga Tehsil were present in the meeting.
