Drinking water mounts in Shimla MC

With increasing heatwave and sudden increase in tourist footfall crisis of potable water mounted in several area in Shimla Mincipal Corporation having rationed water supply aftet gap of three to four.

The Totu unit of Shimla Nagarik Sabha has expressed strong anger over the supply of drinking water in Tutu area after three to four days. The civic body has warned that if water is not supplied wad not restored they would lodged protest and block the road with empty utensils at Totu Chowk. Nagrik Sabha convenor Vijendra Mehra, said  people of Tutu area and Shimla city are facing severe shortage and short supply of drinking water since last many days. He alleged that Water is being supplied to the public after gap of three or six days. He argued that despite charging exoribitant water bill every month, people should have get enough water supply every day. He expressed surprise that the Municipal Corporation, which boasts of providing water to the public round the clock every day by forming Shimla Jal Management Corporation Limited, is not able to provide water to the people of Shimla Totu area for several days. The condition of supply is pathetic in some localities. He said that matter also figured in the high court recently inwhich SJPLN blaimed erratic power supply  and failure of transformer responsible for declining the quantity of water required for the civic body. He said that   this is like throwing dust in the eyes of the public as why supply in others VIP colonies are not being disrupted in the same way. Currently 38 to 40 MLD water is being supplied with the Municipal Corporation. He said that why  the supply of water not being made proportionally in all the areas of  Shimla city. This clearly shows the mismanagement of water supply by the Municipal Corporation is not on the shortage of water but on the supply and distribution side. He said that  lack of coordination between Municipal Corporation Shimla, Jal Shakti Department, Shimla Jal Management Nigam Limited Company is also responsible for the problem. The absence of alternative arrangement of water supply with the Municipal Corporation and Jal Shakti Department shows the poor and disorderly functioning of the civic body.  The civic body has warned that if the drinking water system is not fixed, then the Nagrik Sabha would follow tthe path of agitation,he added
