Congress promised 300 units of free electricity, is now preparing to impose higher electricity prices on the public: Sandipani Bhardwaj
Preparations are underway to impose a burden of around 1200 crore rupees, Congress forgot its 10 guarantees and manifesto as soon as it came to power.
Shimla, BJP state spokesperson Sandipani Bhardwaj launched a scathing attack on the state’s Congress government, saying that the Congress government, which promised 300 units of free electricity during the elections, is now preparing to impose a new burden of inflation on the state’s people by increasing electricity rates. He said that this is the biggest example of the difference between Congress’s words and actions.
He said that based on emerging facts, electricity rates in the state are expected to increase by approximately Rs 1 per unit. This will directly impact millions of electricity consumers in the state. He added that if this proposal is implemented, the general public could face an additional financial burden of approximately Rs 1,200 crore annually.
Sandipani Bhardwaj said that according to information, the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board has placed a demand of approximately ₹8,593 crore before the Regulatory Commission for the upcoming financial year, which is significantly higher than last year. This clearly indicates that the government is now shifting the burden of its faulty policies and economic mismanagement directly onto the public.
He said that the state government has implemented a new system by withdrawing electricity from public sector undertakings, which is directly affecting the power system and rates. Previously, this power was supplied directly to the Electricity Board, providing relief to consumers. However, now, due to government policies, this system has been affected, and the Electricity Board may be forced to purchase more expensive electricity from the open market.
The BJP spokesperson said that during the elections, Congress misled the public with promises of 10 guarantees and free electricity, but upon coming to power, the Congress government abandoned its manifesto and guarantees. Today, instead of providing relief to the public, the government is increasing inflation.
Sandipani Bhardwaj said that the middle class, farmers, small businesses, and ordinary consumers will bear the brunt of the Congress government’s misguided policies. He said the government should immediately clarify where the promise of 300 units of free electricity has gone and why it is imposing additional financial burdens on the public.
He warned that if the state government tried to burden the public by increasing electricity rates, the Bharatiya Janata Party would strongly oppose it from the streets to the House.
