Conditions favorable for the advance of the SW monsoon in Himachal in the next five days

The Indian Meteorological Department forecast a major spell of premonsoon rains and orange and yellow alerts for the next five days also predicted the arrival of South West Monsoon rain during the period.

IMD issued an Orange alert of vigorous rainfall activities likely to increase in HP from 24th June onwards with widespread rainfall activity associated with spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the low and mid-hill district of HP during this period.

Light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms & lightning is likely to continue over a few places in low and mid-hill districts of Himachal Pradesh during the next 24 hours. 

” Conditions are also favorable for the advance of the southwest monsoon in HP during this period,” IMD said.

People are cautioned of inclement weather conditions as  heavy to very rainfall is very likely in the districts of Kangra, 

Mandi, Chamba, Bilaspur, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur and also along catchments area of Sutlej, Beas, Ravi and their tributaries 24th – 26th June. in isolated places

The average Maximum temperatures will likely be normal during the next 24 hours and thereafter decrease by 3 to 4 degrees.

Administration and the public at large may take adequate safety measures in light of the above Impact and Advisory. Disruption of traffic and other essential services in the hilly districts of the state.

 Localized Flooding of roads, and water logging in low-lying areas.Possibility of surface runoff/ inundations at some fully saturated soils & low-lying areas.

Occasional reduction in visibility due to foggy conditions in the hilly district of the state creating difficulty to commute.

Possibilities of damage to vulnerable structure  Minor damage to Kutcha roads. Localized Landslides, Mudslides, flash floods.

Disruption of power and communication facilities in low and mid-hill districts of the state in view of expected thunderstorm/lighting.

Avoid going in open areas in view of expected thunderstorms/lightning. The general public and tourists are advised to follow the advisories and guidelines issued 

by the concerned departments. Follow any traffic advisories that are issued in this regard.

Avoid going to areas that face water logging problems often. Avoid staying in a vulnerable structure.
