CM Sukhu Launches Himachal’s First Web Series on Drug Issue
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu launched the web series “The WHITE Truth” prepared by the Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti on Saturday, January 25. This web series, consisting of 7 episodes in total, can be viewed on the GyanVigyan Stream channels on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
The series highlights various aspects of addiction, such as its causes, adverse effects, legal dimensions, efforts to overcome drug abuse, and the role of the family and society.
This is a significant step under the Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti’s “Yuva Bachao Abhiyan” (Save Youth Campaign). Previously, the Samiti has been raising awareness through various awareness camps, training programs, art squads, etc. In the era of social media, this web series will prove effective in reaching people and spreading awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
“The WHITE Truth” offers a distinct perspective, moving beyond the conventional views held by drug users, the legal side, and prevailing societal and community perceptions.
The Samiti believes that society and the law currently view drug users primarily as criminals, focusing on punishment, while less attention is given to the root causes of addiction, efforts to help individuals recover, and aspects like treatment and rehabilitation.
Due to a lack of de-addiction centers, rehabilitation programs, adequate infrastructure for treatment, and a shortage of doctors and psychological counselors, youth trapped in the web of drug abuse are unable to break free. The Samiti has demanded the strengthening of this framework.
Around 30 activists from 7 districts attended the launch, including Sumitra Chandel (National Coordinator of Samata), State Secretary Satyawan Pundir, series directors Suryansh and Amit, folk singer Kapil Sharma, Urmila Rana, Dr. B.S. Panwar, Promila Basu, Mansa Ram, Sansar Rana, Dr. Ravi Bhushan, Jayant Sharma, Devendra Sharma, Kamlesh, Sanjay Chaudhary, Vijay Kumar, Dinesh, and others.
The first episode of the web series is available on the Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti’s social media platforms, and the next episode will be released after 15 days.
