Celebrating Innovation and Self-Reliance: Rajnath Singh’s Inspiring Message at IIT Mandi’s 16th Foundation Day
At the heartwarming 16th Foundation Day celebration of IIT Mandi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh passionately highlighted the critical role of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in advancing the nation’s defense capabilities. He encouraged students and faculty to harness this technology to make the defense sector more robust and innovative.
Rajnath Singh acknowledged the ongoing efforts of IIT Mandi and DRDO in defense research but expressed his high hopes for even greater achievements. He urged the exploration of new possibilities through AI to further fortify India’s defense systems.
Championing Self-Reliance in Defense
The Defense Minister proudly shared India’s strides towards self-reliance, noting the significant shift from importing 70% of defense materials to producing the same percentage domestically. He also celebrated India’s burgeoning defense exports, which reached ₹23,000 crore in 2023-24, with an ambitious target of ₹50,000 crore by 2029.
Highlighting India’s Economic Growth
Rajnath Singh also took a moment to reflect on India’s economic ascent, proudly stating that India is now the world’s 5th largest economy and is on the path to becoming the 3rd largest.
A Call to Action for Students
In a heartfelt appeal, Rajnath Singh urged students to approach their work with a broad and positive mindset. Quoting former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he reminded them, “No one becomes great with a small mind, and no one stands up with a broken mind.”
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur, Principal Advisor to the CM Gopal Butel, MLAs Purn Chand Thakur and Inder Singh Gandhi, IIT Mandi’s BOG Chief Colonel Dhillon, and Director Professor Laxmidhar Behera.
