BJP leader, driver sentenced for 18 months

Kandaghat court today convicted and sentenced BJP leader and state executive member Tarsem Bharti and a driver of earth moving machine and imposed fine of Rs. 5,000, in an eight-year-old case. 

 The court after examining the witnesses and all aspects sentenced him for 18 months in the case.  The sentence was pronounced by Kandaghat Judicial Magistrate First Class Dr.  Pushpalata’s on Tuesday.  Tarsem Bharti is a state executive member in BJP and is in the race for ticket from Solan assembly constituency.

Notably, around eight years ago on October 15, 2014, the villagers of Kashmadi village were proceeding to Haldu Nala near Wakanghat to attend the cremation.  The villagers noticed that an earth moving machine was carrying out some digging operations on uphill side. The villagers asked the driver Hemraj of the machine as the village cremation ground was towards downhill side and sliding down of boulders and loose soil could lead to fatal mishap. But the driver did not pay any attention to their plea and continued to carry the digging operations. During this, huge stones and boulders started falling from the digging site that belonged to Tarsem Bharti where he had setup a stone crusher unit.

 During this, big stones fell down and two people namely Nitish (19) and Parmanand had lost their lives in the stampede while two were injured. After this, the police had registered a case against the drivers Hemraj and Tarsem Bharti under various sections 336, 337, 338 and 304 A of the IPC.  Now after fighting a legal battle of eight years, Tarsem Bharti and Hemraj have been sentenced on Tuesday.
