Bilaspur DC Abid Hussain Sadiq to Be Honored for Excellence in 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

Bilaspur’s Deputy Commissioner, Abid Hussain Sadiq, has been selected to receive the prestigious “Best Electoral Practices Award-2025” for his exemplary management during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. President Droupadi Murmu will present the award during the National Voter’s Day celebrations in New Delhi. Out of 788 districts across India, only 15 district commissioners have earned this recognition, with both Bilaspur and Lahaul-Spiti making Himachal Pradesh proud.

Expressing his gratitude, Sadiq dedicated the award to the people of Bilaspur and his team. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of district officials and staff. It’s a proud moment for Bilaspur,” he said.

Under Sadiq’s leadership, Bilaspur emerged as a model district in electoral management. Key achievements included the innovative establishment of polling stations, enrollment of 4,473 new voters under the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) program, and a boost in voter turnout across low-participation areas. The district recorded over 70% voter turnout in all four assembly constituencies, showcasing the success of extensive awareness campaigns.

The SVEEP initiatives featured unique programs such as awareness drives by renowned litterateur Ratan Chand Nirjar, the promotion of the “Mera Vote, Meri Duty” song, cultural events, selfie points, and engaging street plays. Over 25,000 awareness materials were distributed, and digital voting invitation cards were introduced to enhance voter engagement.

Polling stations were upgraded with improved facilities, including shaded areas, ORS stations, and crèches for children. Law and order were maintained effectively through collaboration with police and security forces, while advanced data collection and surveillance systems ensured smooth election monitoring.

Sadiq also prioritized updating voter lists and using technological innovations to simplify the electoral process. Reflecting on the achievement, he described the award as a source of inspiration for Bilaspur and Himachal Pradesh, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and citizen participation in strengthening democracy.

This recognition not only highlights Bilaspur’s electoral success but also sets a benchmark for innovation and inclusivity in elections, making it a proud moment for the entire state.
