Anurag Thakur Elected Unopposed to IPU Panel Representing India Among 4 Countries’ Applications

Senior BJP leader and Member of Parliament from Hamirpur, Mr. Anurag Singh Thakur, has been unanimously elected as a member of the Bureau of the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) during its assembly held in Tashkent.

Despite applications from four countries for this coveted seat, Mr. Thakur was elected unopposed during the session, reflecting strong international support. His name was proposed by the chair, and it received unanimous approval from all present members.

Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Shri Harivansh, and other members of the Indian delegation present at the event congratulated Mr. Thakur on this prestigious appointment.

The IPU is a global organization of parliamentarians from around the world. Its main goal is to promote democratic governance and foster understanding, friendship, and cooperation among MPs on issues of global importance. Founded 130 years ago as the world’s first multilateral political organization, the IPU serves as a complementary body to international relations managed at the intergovernmental level by ministers, ambassadors, and state officials. It remains committed to enhancing dialogue and cooperation among national parliaments globally.
