All stranded 63 tourists and number of local evacuates after tragic mishap
The Kinnaur district Administration today allowed the vehicular traffic on Chhitkul Sangala High way after nine Tourist killed and three injured after shooting boulders and stones fell down on the highway damaging a valley bridge on the bank of Basps River on Monday.
Deputy Commissioner Kinnuar Abid Hussain Sadiq told our reporter that Sangla-Chhitkul Road has been cleared and all the tourists who were struck at Chhitkul and Rakcham have been evacuated from the area after three days of mishap.
He said that keeping the possible threat of more rolling stones on the highway movement of commuters and Tourists was restricted since tragic death of nine Tourists on Sunday.
There were as many as 63 Tourists and a number of locals stranding on both sides of the highway to move on vulnerable places; however , the Public Works Department has been keeping vigil on the conditions of landslides and further threat of coming down of boulders and shooting stones on the highway.
District Administration said that vehicular traffic was allowed his evening however was again closed after evacuation of those \stranded. He said that Chhitkul (last bordering village on Indo-Sino border) and Raksham are connected by the Sangala -Chhitkul high way was kept close by district administration since Sunday.
The road has been closed for traffic again until the clearance is given by the public works department and a team from GeologicalSurvey of India requisitioned which would arrived to night at Sangla from Chandigarh, DC informed . Mr Sadiq informed that GSI team would visit the spot of landslides near Batsari village to study the activities of the unstable rock which caused massive devastationin the area on Sunday.
The traffic would not be allowed until Public Works Department would give green signal for safe movement of traffic on the black spotto ensure the safety of commuters and vehicles. The district administration already placed big sign boards on the road warning the commuters and vehicle drivers that the area is highly prone to shooting stones due to unstable hills and frequent cases of rolling bouldersand stones front the top of hill.
He said that the valley rope-way would be used to ferry the local people across the Baspa River to cross the right bank after it had collapsed as hit by a boulder due to a massive landslide on Sunday.
There also exists a temporary valley bridge to connect Batsari village located on the right bank bank of the river now being used temporarily by the people.
Efforts would be made to restore the damaged bridge soon to facilitate vehicular traffic as villagers of Batsari have cut off from damaging the Bridge with importance in the condition keeping safety concerns , he added.
