AIKS Condemns the Inhuman Treatment of Deported Indian Workers by the US Government
The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) strongly condemns the inhuman, undignified, and oppressive treatment meted out to Indian immigrant workers by the United States (US) government during their deportation process. Reports of Indian workers being handcuffed, chained, and subjected to physical and mental torture are deeply shocking, and contravene all international conventions and diplomatic relationships. It is appalling that the US, which often claims to uphold human rights standards, has resorted to such barbaric practices.
The shameful silence of the Government of India in the face of such atrocities is simply outrageous. While governments of other nations, such as Colombia, have taken strong stands against the mistreatment of their citizens, including prohibiting US military aircrafts in their airspace. PM Narendra Modi’s inaction reflects a disturbing servility towards the US and callous indifference towards our own people. The chest thumping about the rising soft power of India under the Modi regime rings out hollow when such incidents come to the fore. PM Modi owes the nation an explanation for allowing such treatment of our migrant workers.
AIKS demands that the Union government take immediate diplomatic action to strongly protest the inhuman treatment of Indian workers by the US administration. It should also ensure the safe and dignified return of all Indian workers facing deportation, including arranging for their airlifting.
