A 2-day workshop on construction of earthquake resistant building organised
A 2-day workshop was organized by the District Disaster Management Authority here at Bachat Bhawan Auditorium today, headed by Additional District Penalty (Protocol) Jyoti Rana.
ADM said our buildings are harmful to lives during earthquake, considering this we need to make our buildings resistant to earthquake. He said that the Sismic zone comes in four and five in view of Himachal Pradesh earthquake, which causes an extreme threat of earthquake here. He said that there are many old buildings in the district Shimla, which needs to be retrofitting to reduce the disaster risk.
About 20 government buildings have been selected in the first phase for retrofitting in district Shimla, said Jyoti Rana. He said this building is pretty old. A form will be given to the concerned department by Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee to collect complete data of these buildings. Based on data filled on this form, CBRI will send proposals to the state government for retrofitting, following which these buildings will be retrofitted.

Raj Bhawan, Oak Over, Himachal Pradesh Secretariat, Deputy Commissioner Office, Police Superintendent Office, All India Radio Building & Doordarshan Building, Rohdu Subdivisional Penal Officer Office Bhawan, Tehsil Office Chidgaon, Joint Office Complex Chidgaon, Old Bhawan Citizen Hospital Rohdu And State Senior Secondary School Bhawan Rohdu, Jubbal Subdivision under Citizen Hospital Jubbal, Tehsil Office Jubbal, Police Station Jubbal and State (Student) Senior Secondary School Jubbal, Kotkhai Subdivision, Tehsil Office Kotkhai and Police Station Kotkhai and Community under Kupvi Subdivision Health Center is proposed building of Kupwi.
Chief Scientist SK Negi & Scientist Ashish Kapoor from Central Bhawan Research Institute Roorkee present as Subject Specialist. SK Negi puts detailed on the building sub-rules and Ashish Kapoor on earthquake discrimination evaluation and constructive aspect of the building.
Officers and staff from the concerned departments were present on this occasion.
