26 Kendriya Vidyalayas are operational in Himachal, plan to open 6 new Kendriya Vidyalayas

In response to questions asked by BJP leader and MP Dr. Rajiv Bhardwaj on important issues related to Himachal Pradesh during the Budget Session-II of the Lok Sabha, the Central Government has given detailed information related to education and rural road development in the state.

On March 9, 2026, MP Dr. Rajiv Bhardwaj had asked the Education Minister in the Lok Sabha how many Kendriya Vidyalayas are currently operating in Himachal Pradesh and what is the plan to open new Kendriya Vidyalayas in the state.

In response to this question, Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary stated that 26 Kendriya Vidyalayas are currently operating in Himachal Pradesh. Of these, six are in Kangra district and four in Chamba district, providing quality education to students.

He also informed that 56 new Kendriya Vidyalayas have been approved across the country in the year 2025, which includes plans to open 6 new Kendriya Vidyalayas in Himachal Pradesh.

Dr. Rajiv Bhardwaj said that Kendriya Vidyalayas are renowned for providing high quality education in the country and provide a uniform curriculum and quality education, especially to the children of transferable Central Government employees, including those in the Defense and Paramilitary Forces. He said that in a state like Himachal Pradesh, where a large number of families are serving in the military and paramilitary forces, the importance of Kendriya Vidyalayas increases even more.

Apart from this, MP Dr. Rajiv Bhardwaj sought information from the Rural Development Minister in the Lok Sabha on March 10, 2026, about the roads sanctioned and constructed in the Nurpur Assembly constituency of Kangra district under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

In response to this question, Union Minister of State for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan said that since the inception of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, a total of 26,505 km road length and 147 bridges have been approved in Himachal Pradesh in four phases.

The Minister also informed that 3,558 kilometers of road construction and 17 bridges have been completed in Kangra district so far. Additionally, 272 kilometers of road construction and two bridges have been completed in Nurpur block.

MP Dr. Rajiv Bhardwaj said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government is continuously working to strengthen road connectivity in rural and remote areas. The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana is a significant initiative for rural India, aimed at connecting remote villages with all-weather roads.

He said that through these projects, education and infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh are being strengthened and better connectivity and facilities are being made available to the people of rural areas.
