1422 Cr JICA project in Himachal is the result of the efforts of Central Govt: Anurag Thakur
Himachal Pradesh: Former Union Minister and Member of Parliament from Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur has described the approval of a project worth Rs 1422 crore to strengthen the health infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh with the help of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as a result of the efforts of the Central Government.
Shri Anurag Singh Thakur said, “Respected Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has a special affection for the land of Gods, Himachal Pradesh, and the Modi government at the Centre has always taken Himachal’s interests into consideration. The recent approval of a project worth ₹1,422 crore (approximately $1.422 billion) to strengthen the health infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh with assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is a culmination of the Central Government’s efforts. It is well known that the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh met with the Honorable Union Health Minister, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, on 22.05.2025 and requested his intervention to expedite the approval of the proposal for a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to strengthen statewide health facilities in Himachal Pradesh. This proposal is worth ₹1,422 crore (approximately $1.138 billion), of which external assistance is ₹1,138 crore (80%) and state assistance is ₹284 crore (approximately $20%). However, it is unfortunate to see that the State Government is publicizing this approval as if the total amount is the State Government’s contribution. The state government is misleading the people of the state on this issue.”
Shri Anurag Singh Thakur said, “The Modi government and the Ministry of Finance approved the proposal on June 30, 2025, for a loan of ₹1,138 crore as external assistance from JICA. The Government of India will bear the loan of ₹1,024.2 crore (80%) and provide it to Himachal Pradesh as a grant. Himachal Pradesh will bear the loan of ₹113.8 crore (20%). This will help establish a cancer hospital in Hamirpur, my parliamentary constituency, with ₹300 crore and expand facilities in Hamirpur, Nahan, Mandi, Tanda, Chamba, and IGMC Shimla with ₹650 crore.”
This JICA approval will include 3 Tesla MRI machines, high-energy linear accelerators (LINACs) in Mandi and Chamba, robotic surgery equipment in medical colleges, model health institutions at 67 locations, and health digitization. This entire funding has been approved by the respected Union Health Minister, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, under the leadership of the respected Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, a significant gift for Himachal Pradesh, for which we express our gratitude.
