A Massive landslide disrupts vehicular traffic on NH-5
A massive landslide occur near Jeouri in Kinnuar district about 125 km from here today disrupting the vehicular traffic on Hindustan -Tibet National highway-5 between Rampur and Bhavanagar, district administration confirmed.
Deputy Commissioner Kinnuar Abid Husain Sadiki sad that a Massive landslide occurred at 1234 hrs nine km away from Neugalsari the Aug 11 landslide spot near Jeouri in which no loss of life was reportedsofar.
Landslide was massive as the big boulders closed the NH-5 about 100 meter long and bouldersfell down in the Satluj River. Long queue of vehicles could be seen on the both side of landslides waiting theopening of traffic during the apple season.
The Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department and Border Road Organisation deployed its earth-movers and heavy machineries to open the road on war footing.
As it has been stated that 39 people have been killed and 20 others injured in the district Kinnuar in separate rock fall and landslide incidents in month of July and August during the rainy season .
The Indian Met Office also forecast heavy monsoon rain in most places in the state from September 8 to 10 in the foothills and mid hills and many places in the high reaches. Met Office also issued warning of heavy rainfall in district Una, Bilaspurand Hamirpur at isolated places in next 24 hrs.
Moreover, the state is likely to have Thunderstorms , lightning and Heavy rain from Sept 8 to 10 at isolated places of state baring Kullu, Kinnuar and Lahaul Spiti district. Most part of district Una, Hamirpur , Bilaspur , Chamba, Kangra , Sirmaur Shimla and Solan likelyto affect by the heavy rainfall as yellow warning was issued by the state disaster management authority to local administration to be remained prepared for any eventuality
An advisory was also issued by the state administration that during heavy rainfall could lead to traffic congestion and water accumulationin low lying areas. Possibility of landslides may arise.
The People are warned to check traffic congestion on moving out for route or leaving destination as they should follow any traffic advisories that are issued in this regards by the respective district administration moreover one should avoid going to areas that are prone for the problems of water logging.
Currently monsoon activities are subdued in the state moreover it could further intensified with cyclonic circulations over Rajasthan and adjoining areas of Punjab and over Kutch and neighbourhood. In last 24 hrs Dharmshala got major rainfall of 23.8 mm , Bilaspur23/.6 mm , Nalagarh in Solan 11 mm.
