Wildflower Hall Deal: Himachal to Earn ₹3 Crore a Month
In a major boost to Himachal Pradesh’s finances and tourism sector, the state government has secured a record 47.1 per cent revenue-sharing bid for the operation and management of the iconic Wildflower Hall Hotel in Shimla. According to the government, this is the highest revenue-sharing bid in India for a transaction of this nature.
The deal follows a competitive e-auction and is expected to provide the state with a steady source of income while allowing it to retain full ownership of the hotel and its assets.
Under the 35-year licence agreement, the government expects to earn around ₹3 crore per month, with a 3 per cent annual escalation. Over the entire licence period, the deal is projected to generate nearly ₹2,000 crore for the state. It also includes an upfront licence fee of ₹48 crore and a minimum committed investment of ₹50 crore in the property.
The auction also brings closure to a dispute that stretched for nearly 25 years. Following prolonged litigation and proceedings before the Supreme Court, the hotel property was restored to the Himachal Pradesh government. The state has since secured ownership and control of the hotel land and property, the joint venture company and its associated assets and rights, along with cash accruals of around ₹400 crore.
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu described the resolution of the Wildflower Hall matter as an important achievement for Himachal Pradesh. He said his government was determined to protect the state’s legitimate rights in major projects and public assets.
Referring to the Kishau Multipurpose Project and matters involving JSW, Sukhu said the government would continue to firmly pursue Himachal’s interests to ensure the state receives its rightful benefits.
The Chief Minister said the restoration of Wildflower Hall, coupled with the record revenue-sharing bid and expected long-term returns, reflected the government’s approach towards protecting public assets while strengthening the state’s economy.
He also credited the administrative machinery, consultants and legal teams for their sustained efforts in resolving the long-running matter. The government, he added, would continue to follow a transparent, accountable and result-oriented approach to ensure that Himachal Pradesh’s resources and public assets are used for the benefit of its people.
What I changed: I removed repetitive promotional language, tightened lengthy sentences and brought the 47.1% bid, ₹2,000 crore projected revenue and 25-year legal battle higher in the story to give it a more natural, reader-friendly news flow.
