HPTDC’s Remarkable Turnaround: Surpasses Rs. 100 crore turnover

The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) has reached a historic milestone, surpassing the Rs. 100 crore turnover mark for the first time. Chairman R.S. Bali announced that the Corporation’s annual turnover has increased from Rs. 78 crore to Rs. 107 crore over the past two and a half years, showcasing a strong recovery after years of financial difficulties.

For a long time, HPTDC faced financial challenges due to operational inefficiencies, outdated hotel infrastructure, and rising competition from the private sector. Many of its hotels had declining occupancy rates and required regular renovations. In previous years, the Corporation often relied heavily on government grants to cover basic operational costs, with stagnant profitability.

Despite these obstacles, HPTDC has achieved a significant turnaround. R.S. Bali attributed the Corporation’s growth to consistent improvements in service quality, better marketing strategies, and enhanced customer experiences at its hotels and restaurants.

He also highlighted the Corporation’s commitment to employee welfare, noting that gratuity payments totaling Rs. 41 crore have been disbursed under the revised 2016 pay scales. This amount is significantly higher compared to the Rs. 26 crore released during the previous government’s five-year tenure.

Looking ahead, Bali emphasized the need for renovation and modernization of HPTDC properties to sustain this growth. Discussions are ongoing to secure financial assistance for upgrading hotel infrastructure, aiming to further strengthen HPTDC’s position in the state’s tourism sector and push the turnover to Rs. 300 crore in the coming years.
