BJP IT Cell Steps Up Digital Outreach in Himachal, Focuses on Booth-Level Network
8,007 WhatsApp groups were currently active across Himachal
The BJP has intensified efforts to strengthen its digital presence across Himachal Pradesh, with National Joint Secretary Shiv Prakash calling the growing battle over information and political narratives a major challenge for political organisations.
Addressing a one-day state-level working committee meeting of the BJP State IT Wing at Chintpurni on Monday, Shiv Prakash said political communication was increasingly being shaped by what he described as a “fifth-generation” information war, where technology, credible information and digital platforms play a crucial role.
State BJP president Rajiv Bindal presided over the meeting.
Shiv Prakash described the party’s IT Cell as an important pillar of its organisational network. He called for better coordination among IT workers, wider digital outreach and stronger communication of the Central Government’s achievements and the party’s activities.
Highlighting the role of technology in governance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said digital systems had helped improve transparency and accountability. He also urged party workers to counter what he termed misleading campaigns by the Opposition with verified information, restraint and constructive dialogue.
Pointing to the BJP’s expanding digital network in Himachal, Shiv Prakash said 8,007 WhatsApp groups were currently active across the state, helping the party rapidly share organisational messages down to the polling booth level.
Bindal, meanwhile, asked IT Cell workers and digital volunteers to use online platforms to highlight what the BJP considers the shortcomings of the Congress government in Himachal. He cited unfulfilled election guarantees, unemployment, rising prices and the status of development projects among the issues the party plans to raise with the public.
He said IT workers should serve as a bridge between the BJP and the people, adding that effective digital communication and stronger booth-level coordination would form an important part of the party’s preparations for the next Assembly elections.
Taking aim at the Congress nationally, Bindal also rejected its claims that democracy was under threat. He alleged that the party’s political position had weakened because of what he described as negative politics and repeated electoral setbacks.
MLA Bikram Thakur, State General Secretary Siddharthan, Himachal BJP IT Cell Convenor Anil Dadwal and Delhi IT Cell Convenor Puneet Agarwal were among those present at the meeting.
