Nurpur Police Freeze ₹74 Lakh Assets in Crackdown on Drug Trafficking Network

In a major move against the illegal drug trade, Himachal Pradesh Police have secured the freezing of assets worth over ₹74 lakh linked to a narcotics case investigated by the Nurpur Police district. The action is part of the state’s broader strategy to target not only drug traffickers but also the financial networks that support their activities.

According to police officials, the case originated after the arrest of an accused involved in a commercial quantity narcotics case. Following the arrest, investigators carried out a detailed financial probe to trace assets allegedly acquired through funds linked to the drug trade.

The investigation led to the freezing of a two-storey residential building-cum-shopping complex with seven shops in Village Labh, Tehsil Jawali, Kangra district, valued at nearly ₹69 lakh. A tractor purchased in 2019 and worth around ₹5.13 lakh was also attached, taking the total value of the frozen assets to approximately ₹74.12 lakh.

The freezing order was issued by Police Station Jawali under provisions of the NDPS Act and later sent to the Competent Authority in New Delhi for review. On October 15, the authority formally confirmed the freezing of both properties after examining financial records, including bank statements, income tax returns and other supporting documents.

Police said the documents submitted during the proceedings were insufficient to establish the source of funds used to purchase the tractor, resulting in the confirmation of the freezing order.

Financial Blow to Drug Networks

Officials said the action reflects a growing focus on dismantling the economic infrastructure behind narcotics trafficking. Rather than limiting operations to arrests and drug seizures, investigators are increasingly tracing and targeting assets suspected to have been acquired through illegal proceeds.

As part of this ongoing campaign, assets worth nearly ₹30.70 crore have been frozen in various cases after receiving approval from the Competent Authority.

Police believe that cutting off the financial gains from drug trafficking is one of the most effective ways to weaken criminal networks and deter future offenders.

Public Asked to Join Anti-Drug Campaign

The police have also appealed to the public to play an active role in the fight against drugs by sharing information about drug trafficking, illegal sale of narcotics and properties suspected to have been purchased using proceeds from the trade.

Officials said community participation remains crucial in identifying drug networks and achieving the shared goal of making Himachal Pradesh a drug-free state.
