Himachal Congress Gears Up for Delhi Protest, Party Leaders and Workers to Join the March

The Himachal Pradesh Congress is preparing for a major show of strength in New Delhi, with thousands of party leaders and workers set to participate in a national protest on October 12. The demonstration is being organised amid concerns raised by the Congress party over alleged electoral irregularities and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Cabinet ministers, MLAs and senior party functionaries are expected to be part of the delegation, which will leave Himachal on Sunday evening and reach Himachal Bhawan in Delhi on Monday morning. The protesters are also expected to join a march towards the Supreme Court as part of the opposition’s broader campaign for electoral transparency.

The mobilisation comes as the Congress-led INDIA bloc intensifies its demand for greater accountability in the electoral process and seeks the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Speaking to the media in Shimla, Chief Minister Sukhu accused the Centre of attempting to curb democratic voices by placing restrictions on peaceful protests in the national capital. He said the right to question electoral practices and participate in peaceful demonstrations is a fundamental pillar of democracy.

Sukhu also defended Rahul Gandhi and opposition leaders over allegations of “vote chori,” asserting that raising concerns about voting procedures should not be viewed as an attempt to create unrest. He maintained that every citizen must be able to exercise their democratic rights freely and without intimidation.

Congress leader Akshay Singh Nainta echoed similar concerns, stressing that public trust in the electoral system should remain above political considerations. He said questions surrounding voter lists and the SIR exercise deserve transparent and fact-based answers.

According to party leaders, the Delhi protest is aimed at highlighting concerns over electoral transparency and ensuring accountability in the democratic process. The large-scale participation from Himachal Pradesh reflects the party’s effort to involve both grassroots workers and senior leadership as it sharpens its campaign on election-related issues.
