Talai Chiyog’s Chhinj Fair postponed to October 4 due to heavy rains

Due to heavy rains, the famous Chhinj Fair in Talai Chiyog, northern India, was cancelled on Sunday. It will now be held on October 4. Sandeep Kumar Sharma, a scholar and literary figure from the Chiyog region, said that this fair is more than a century old. Last year, it was celebrated as a centenary fair.
He said that the Talai Chiyog Chhinj Fair is attended by international wrestlers from various states in northern India as well as from abroad. The fair is organized under the joint auspices of the Gram Panchayats of Chiyog, Dadas, and Dehna. A large number of people from various parts of the state come to watch the wrestling.
Sandeep Sharma stated that this year, the winning wrestler of the Badi Mali title will receive a prize of ₹1.51 lakh. Meanwhile, the award for the Chhoti Mali, or Shimla Kesari, is reserved only for wrestlers from Shimla district. The wrestler who wins the Shimla Kesari title will receive a prize of ₹25,000. This year, for the first time, women’s wrestling will also be held, with the winning female wrestler receiving a prize of ₹21,000.
The lucky draw will be a major attraction at the fair. The first prize will be an Alto-K10 car, the second a scooter, and the third an iPhone. The fourth prize will be two inductions, and the fifth a three smartwatches. Lucky draw coupons are available from committee members, and stalls will be set up for sale at the fair. The raffle will be held before the start of the big festival.
Sandeep Sharma stated that the fair will begin with the traditional worship of Goddess Kali Deshu. Following this, the fair committee will worship the arena and the wrestling competitions will begin. He added that State BJP Executive Member and Arhatiya Sangh President Harish Thakur will attend the fair as the chief guest.
