Biometric Checks to Bring Transparency to Himachal Police Constable Recruitment Drive

With nearly one lakh aspirants competing for 734 constable posts, the Himachal Pradesh Police is set to introduce a technology-driven recruitment process aimed at ensuring fairness, transparency and secure candidate verification.

The recruitment drive has received an overwhelming 98,719 applications for 491 male and 243 female constable vacancies from across the state. To manage the large number of applicants efficiently, the Physical Efficiency Tests (PET) will be conducted in phases at designated Police Lines and grounds across various districts, with testing expected to begin in October.

A major feature of this year’s recruitment process is the introduction of a digital identification system. Candidates arriving at the test venues will undergo biometric verification, where their fingerprints and digital photographs will be captured and matched with the details submitted during the application process.

In addition, each applicant will be assigned a barcode linked to their recruitment records. Officials will be able to instantly access and verify candidate information by scanning the barcode at the venue, making the process faster and more reliable.

The new system has been designed to prevent impersonation and other irregularities by ensuring that the person appearing for the test is the same individual who applied. It is also expected to reduce repeated manual document verification, allowing the recruitment process to run more smoothly.

Police officials said a digital record of every candidate’s participation will be maintained from entry to the completion of the physical test. These records can also be used during subsequent stages of recruitment, ensuring continuity and accuracy in candidate identification.

With almost one lakh applicants vying for 734 positions, the ground test will serve as a critical screening stage. Candidates who successfully meet the prescribed physical standards will move on to the next phase of the selection process.

By combining biometric verification, digital photography and barcode-based tracking, the Himachal Pradesh Police aims to strengthen transparency and credibility in one of the state’s largest recruitment exercises.
