800 Km of Roads to Be Retarred Across Himachal After Monsoon : Vikramaditya
With monsoon rains slowing development work across Himachal Pradesh, the state government has announced an extensive road repair and tarring drive to improve connectivity once the weather clears.
Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh informed the Assembly that nearly 800 kilometres of roads will be retarred at an estimated cost of ₹120 crore after the monsoon season. He said the initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen and upgrade the state’s road infrastructure.
Speaking during Question Hour in the ongoing monsoon session of the Assembly, the minister noted that road construction and improvement projects covering around 1,500 kilometres are currently underway at various stages across Himachal Pradesh.
Responding to concerns raised by BJP MLA Hansraj, Vikramaditya Singh said the Public Works Department is continuously working to improve road quality and expand connectivity. A detailed plan has been prepared to ensure that road projects are completed efficiently and within scheduled timelines.
The minister acknowledged that heavy rains have disrupted construction and maintenance work in several areas. However, he assured that projects affected by the monsoon will be taken up on priority as soon as weather conditions become favourable.
To ensure that road works are not delayed further, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has also assured support in addressing the financial requirements for procuring bitumen, a key material used in road tarring. This is expected to help speed up pending projects across the state.
Vikramaditya Singh also appealed to MLAs and local representatives to help resolve land-related issues that are delaying road projects. He urged them to facilitate pending land transfer and gift deed formalities in favour of the Public Works Department so that development works can move ahead without obstacles.
The planned road improvement campaign is expected to provide a major boost to transportation and connectivity across Himachal, particularly in areas affected by monsoon-related damage.
