Untouchability and caste discrimination are unfortunate in the 21st century : Satyawan Pundir
The Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti (HPGV) has expressed regret over an incident circulating on social media in which people who ate at a Dalit’s home in the Theog area were being threatened with social boycott. In a joint statement issued by the Samiti’s State Secretary Satyawan Pundir, founding member Govind Chataranta, and Samata Coordinator Sumitra Chandel, they stated that such a mindset in the 21st century is not only social injustice but also an insult to the Constitution. The Samiti believes that it is extremely unfortunate that even after nearly eight decades of independence, people continue to harbor such discriminatory mindsets. State Secretary Satyawan Pundir expressed regret and stated that this issue is being politicized and attempts are being made to divide society by creating caste polarization.
He said that some people are trying to break the unity of society for personal gain, which is not right. This will have long-term adverse consequences and will harm mutual harmony. He said that the Gyan Vigyan Movement condemns any incident that causes human conflict in the name of caste or religion. He appealed to the government and administration to take appropriate action against any incident or statement that disturbs social harmony.
