At 65, Kalia Ram wins chief post, defeats protégé by 241 votes

65-year-old Kalia Ram, also known as Deena, defeated his young rival Sanjay Kumar by 241 votes for the post of Pradhan in the Ranaghat Panchayat of the Rajgarh block, setting a regional record. Kalia Ram has a distinct reputation throughout the region as a skilled craftsman. Interestingly, Sanjay Kumar is also Kalia Ram’s disciple. Kalia Ram trained Sanjay as a mason. Meaning, the guru has defeated his disciple in the Panchayat elections.
Let us tell you that there are a total of 991 voters in Ranaghat Panchayat, out of which Kalia Ram got 612 votes and Sanjay got 371 votes. Kalia Ram is well known in the area as a mechanic, due to which the people of the Panchayat voted generously for him and made him win. When Kalia Ram was told about this, he said that he had no interest in politics, but the public trusted him, due to which he had to contest the elections at this age. There is a festive atmosphere in his house these days, and there is a continuous stream of people coming to congratulate him.
