Shimla Gears Up for a Vibrant International Summer Festival with Culture, Fun & Helicopter Rides

Shimla is all set to come alive with color, culture, and celebration as the International Summer Festival returns from June 8 to June 12 at The Ridge and The Mall. Announced by Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap during a press conference, this year’s festival promises a lively mix of cultural showcases, sports events, and exciting entertainment activities for both tourists and locals.

One of the standout attractions this year is a unique helicopter joyride experience called the “Ride of Seven Hills.” Inspired by the recently launched heli-taxi services connecting Shimla to destinations like Reckong Peo, Chandigarh, and Kullu, the district administration has partnered with the same service provider to bring this idea to life. The ride will offer participants a breathtaking aerial tour of Shimla, showcasing all seven hills of the city from above. If it receives a positive response, officials are considering making it a year-round attraction.

The five-day festival has been carefully curated to offer something for everyone. Visitors can look forward to a rich lineup of cultural performances, including traditional dances such as Mahanati, Chham, Choliya, Ghoomar, Bhawai, and Gojri. Artists from the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts in Dharamsala will also present a special performance, adding a unique cultural flavor. In addition, the festival will host an art exhibition, a flower show, a women’s food festival, and even a traditional Pahadi fashion show.

Adding to the fun will be lighthearted and engaging events like a dog show and a healthy baby show. Theatre enthusiasts can enjoy the Shimla Grishmotsav-Rang Manch Utsav, while music lovers will be treated to lively star nights featuring well-known singers and performers.

For students and young participants, the festival includes the “Shyamala Manthan” inter-school declamation competition in both Hindi and English. Sports and fitness will also play an important role, with an inter-district volleyball tournament being organized as part of an anti-drug awareness campaign. Teams from all 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh are expected to compete, promoting both sportsmanship and a healthy lifestyle.

Another highlight is the “Voice of Mountain Competition,” where aspiring singers can showcase their talent. Auditions for this contest will be conducted online, and winners across events will receive attractive cash prizes.

With its blend of tradition, entertainment, and new-age attractions like the helicopter ride, this year’s Shimla Summer Festival promises to be a memorable experience for everyone who attends.
