Special Lecture on Ideological Legacy of Dr B.R. Ambedkar organized at the IIAS

A Special Lecture was organised today at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Rashtrapati Nivas, Shimla, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar. The programme, held in the Seminar Room on the Ground Floor of the Main Building of the Institute, was also simultaneously streamed through Cisco Webex and the Institute’s official Facebook page, enabling members of the Institute community as well as other interested participants to join the event.

The programme commenced with floral tributes being offered before the portrait of Dr B.R. Ambedkar. Thereafter, Shri Mehar Chand Negi, Secretary, IIAS, welcomed the speaker and highlighted the multidimensional personality of Dr Ambedkar and his extraordinary contribution to the making of modern India.

On the occasion, Professor Brijendra Pandey, Fellow, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, delivered a special lecture on the subject “B.R. Ambedkar.” In his address, he presented Dr Ambedkar as a central figure in the ideological framework of modern India and spoke in detail about his life-long struggles, intellectual accomplishments, and commitment to social transformation. He stated that Dr Ambedkar not only provided Indian democracy with a constitutional framework, but also endowed it with a profound intellectual foundation of social morality, justice, and inclusion.

The lecture also laid special emphasis on the contemporary relevance of Dr Ambedkar’s ideas. It was underlined that at a time when society continues to grapple with questions of equality, representation, constitutional values, and social justice, Dr Ambedkar’s thought assumes even greater significance. His ideas continue to inspire Indian society toward self-reflection, democratic responsibility, and a more humane social order.

At the conclusion of the programme, the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Rajeev Kumar Mishra, Librarian/Incharge, Academic Resource Section, IIAS, Shimla. The programme was conducted by Dr Akhilesh Pathak, SPRO, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. National Fellows, Fellows, Tagore Fellows, IUC Associates, Section Heads, and staff members of the Institute were present on the occasion.
