JUIT Waknaghat: Building Global Futures in Biotechnology

The Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics at Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Waknaghat, is carving out a strong reputation by blending industry collaboration, cutting-edge research, and skill-based training to prepare students for success in the fast-growing biotechnology sector.

Founded in 2005, the department offers diverse programmes including B.Tech in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, M.Tech in Biotechnology, M.Sc. in Biotechnology and Microbiology, and Ph.D. programmes. Looking ahead, it will introduce a B.Sc. in Forensic Science in 2026, reflecting its focus on emerging fields.

To bridge academics with industry, the department has signed 23 MoUs with national and international partners, enabling internships, student exchanges, and joint research projects. This has translated into impressive placements, with graduates joining Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Adobe, earning packages up to ₹30 lakh per annum.

Students gain hands-on experience in advanced labs for genetic engineering, nanotechnology, bioinformatics, and transcriptomics, while Centres of Excellence in Healthcare Technologies and Sustainable Rural Development foster interdisciplinary innovation.

The department’s research impact is significant: over 112 Ph.D. degrees awarded, multiple patents, and an H-index of 74. Faculty are actively engaged in projects funded by DBT, DST, ICMR, CSIR, and DRDO. Students also shine in national exams like GATE and JRF, and present at international conferences.

Entrepreneurship is nurtured through the Technology Incubation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell (TIEDC) and the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), encouraging start-up ideas and research-driven ventures.

Accredited with NAAC ‘A+’ and NBA Grade (2024), the department has earned recognition for its academic quality and industry-oriented approach. Its alumni are now contributing across sectors worldwide, reflecting the growing impact of JUIT’s biotechnology programmes.
